Itinerary & tour details

Welcome to Chengdu, the captivating capital of Sichuan Province, a city celebrated for its adorable giant pandas, centuries-old traditions, vibrant street life, and world-famous Sichuan cuisine. Upon arrival at Chengdu Airport, your private driver and guide will greet you and arrange a comfortable transfer to your downtown hotel. After checking in and storing your luggage, begin your exploration of Chengdu, discovering the city's unique blend of natural charm, cultural heritage, and relaxed everyday lifestyle.

Start your sightseeing at the renowned Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, one of China's most important centers for giant panda conservation and scientific research. Set amid bamboo groves, landscaped gardens, and purpose-built habitats, the base offers an opportunity to observe these beloved animals in a carefully managed environment while learning about the ongoing efforts to protect this vulnerable species.

Follow the shaded pathways to the panda enclosures and watch the giant pandas as they munch on fresh bamboo, lounge in the shade, climb, or explore their surroundings. Morning is generally a good time for panda viewing because the animals may be more active during the cooler hours. Depending on the season and animal behavior, you may also have the opportunity to see younger pandas, including cubs if they are available for public viewing, as well as red pandas in designated areas.

Continue to the Panda Museum, where educational displays introduce the biology, evolution, habitat, and conservation of giant pandas. Learn how researchers monitor panda health, support breeding programs, and protect natural habitats. The museum visit adds valuable context to the panda encounter, helping you understand why these distinctive animals have become an internationally recognized symbol of wildlife conservation.

Take time to photograph the pandas from designated viewing areas and enjoy the peaceful surroundings of the base. Animal visibility and activity vary throughout the day, and cubs are not always available for public viewing. Please follow visitor regulations, maintain a respectful distance, and avoid making loud noises or disturbing the animals.

In the afternoon, head to People's Park, a beloved public space where you can experience Chengdu's famous slow-paced lifestyle. Unlike the city's modern shopping districts, the park offers a glimpse into everyday local life, with tree-lined paths, traditional pavilions, landscaped gardens, and groups of residents gathering for conversation, music, dancing, and leisure activities.

One of the park's highlights is its traditional teahouse culture. Settle down for a cup of Sichuan tea served in a lidded bowl, known as a gaiwan, and observe the traditional preparation and serving techniques. Learn how the lid is used to hold back tea leaves while drinking, and enjoy the unhurried atmosphere as locals chat, play cards, or relax beneath the trees. Depending on availability, you may also observe traditional ear-cleaning services performed by experienced practitioners, a distinctive local custom that some residents enjoy as part of their leisure routine. Any such service is optional and usually charged separately.

Continue to the park's famous matchmaking corner, where family members and older residents sometimes display handwritten notices introducing unmarried relatives in hopes of finding suitable partners. This unusual social tradition offers an interesting glimpse into contemporary Chinese family life and changing attitudes toward relationships. Browse respectfully, observe the interactions around you, and allow your guide to explain the cultural background without intruding on private conversations or personal information.

As the afternoon progresses, enjoy some free time in the park to take photographs, watch local activities, or simply relax with another cup of tea. People's Park is not merely a tourist attraction; it is a living social space where Chengdu residents gather to enjoy the simple pleasures of daily life.

In the evening, visit Jinli Ancient Street, one of Chengdu's most atmospheric pedestrian districts. Traditional-style buildings, red lanterns, wooden façades, and narrow lanes create a lively setting that evokes the character of an old Sichuan market town. As the lights come on, the street becomes especially inviting for an evening stroll, photography, and food exploration.

Discover the area's many snack stalls and small restaurants, sampling local specialties such as spicy wontons, dan dan noodles, Sichuan-style dumplings, sweet water noodles, and other regional delicacies. Adventurous food lovers may also try Sichuan barbecue skewers or selected spicy snacks, while those who prefer milder flavors can choose steamed treats, desserts, or less spicy dishes. Your guide can help you understand the ingredients and choose food according to your preferences and spice tolerance.

Take time to browse traditional handicrafts, local souvenirs, and specialty shops along the street. Depending on the day's program, you may also encounter folk-art displays or traditional performances that showcase Sichuan's cultural heritage. The combination of historical architecture, lively crowds, local flavors, and glowing lanterns makes Jinli a memorable place to conclude your first day in Chengdu.

After the evening exploration, return to your hotel and enjoy a restful night. Today's itinerary combines wildlife conservation, traditional tea culture, local social customs, and Sichuan street food, offering a comprehensive introduction to the character and everyday life of Chengdu.

Accommodation: Hotel in Chengdu. Meals and optional personal purchases are subject to the confirmed package arrangements.

After breakfast at your hotel, depart Chengdu for Leshan, a historic city in Sichuan Province famous for its monumental stone Buddha, riverside scenery, and distinctive regional cuisine. The drive generally takes around two hours, depending on traffic and your departure location. Enjoy the changing views as you leave the Chengdu metropolitan area and travel through the Sichuan countryside toward the confluence of several important rivers.

Your main destination is the extraordinary Leshan Giant Buddha, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of China's most remarkable examples of ancient religious sculpture. Carved into a sandstone cliff overlooking the meeting point of the Minjiang, Dadu, and Qingyi rivers, the seated Buddha stands approximately 71 meters tall. Its monumental scale, intricate craftsmanship, and dramatic riverside location have made it one of Sichuan's most celebrated cultural landmarks.

Choose between two sightseeing experiences, subject to the day's operating conditions and your confirmed arrangements. For a broad perspective, take a sightseeing boat on the river and admire the Giant Buddha from the water. This option provides an impressive panoramic view of the entire statue, allowing you to appreciate its enormous proportions, the surrounding cliffs, and its commanding position above the river. From the boat, you can capture photographs of the Buddha against the natural landscape without undertaking the steep walking route inside the scenic area.

Alternatively, explore the Leshan Giant Buddha Scenic Area on foot to experience the monument at closer range. Walk through the designated paths and historic temple grounds, where you can examine the sculpture's detailed features, including its facial expression, hair coils, shoulders, hands, and enormous feet. The carved details reflect the remarkable skill of the artisans who created the statue during the Tang dynasty, transforming the cliff face into an enduring work of Buddhist art.

If you choose the walking route, be prepared for steps and potentially steep or narrow sections along the cliffside paths. During busy periods, queues may form at certain sections, and the route may require additional time. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended, and visitors should follow the official one-way system and staff instructions where applicable.

Depending on your selected route, you may also explore parts of the surrounding temple complex, traditional pavilions, and viewpoints overlooking the river. These areas provide opportunities to appreciate the site's religious significance, architectural features, and relationship with the natural landscape. Your guide can explain the history of the monument, the Buddhist beliefs associated with its construction, and the engineering challenges involved in carving such a monumental sculpture into the cliff.

After visiting the Giant Buddha, enjoy an exploration of Leshan's Local Food Culture. The city is especially well known for its distinctive Sichuan snacks and regional dishes, many of which combine aromatic seasonings, chili, Sichuan peppercorns, and rich savory flavors. Depending on your preferences, you may sample Leshan sweet-skin duck, bobo chicken, local rice cakes, tofu-based snacks, or other specialties available near the city center and food streets.

For a more immersive experience, stroll through a local food district and observe how traditional snacks are prepared and served. Your guide can help identify popular local dishes and explain their ingredients, preparation methods, and regional variations. If you enjoy spicy food, you may choose bolder flavors; if you prefer milder options, there are also rice-based snacks, desserts, and other dishes that can suit different tastes. Food purchases and additional dining expenses are payable separately unless otherwise specified in your package.

After lunch or your food exploration, take some time to enjoy the local atmosphere before beginning the return journey to Chengdu. Depending on the schedule, you may have an opportunity to take a short walk through the city or admire the riverside scenery before departure.

In the late afternoon or evening, travel back to Chengdu by vehicle. The journey generally takes around two hours but may be longer depending on traffic and road conditions. Upon arrival, return to your hotel and relax after a day of cultural discovery, riverside scenery, and Sichuan culinary experiences.

Accommodation: Hotel in Chengdu. Meals and any optional boat tickets or additional activities should be confirmed according to the selected package.

Enjoy breakfast at your hotel and take some time to relax before departure. Depending on your flight or high-speed train schedule, the morning may be left free for personal activities, allowing you to enjoy a final glimpse of Chengdu at your own pace. You may take a short walk around the hotel, visit a nearby café, or browse local shops for Sichuan tea, regional snacks, and souvenirs to bring home.

If your departure is scheduled for later in the day, you may ask the hotel about luggage storage after check-out so that you can make the most of your remaining time without carrying your bags. Please allow sufficient time to return to the hotel, collect your belongings, and prepare for the transfer.

At the confirmed pickup time, your driver will meet you and provide a comfortable transfer to Chengdu Airport or the designated railway station, according to your onward travel arrangements. Your driver or guide can assist with basic departure coordination as specified in the booking. Please reconfirm your departure terminal, station, pickup time, and meeting point in advance to avoid confusion, especially if your ticket departs from a different transport hub than expected.

Allow adequate time for traffic, check-in, baggage drop, and security procedures. If you have special luggage requirements or need assistance at the airport or railway station, please communicate these needs before departure so that arrangements can be clarified in advance.

Your three-day Chengdu and Leshan journey now comes to an end, leaving you with memories of adorable giant pandas, traditional teahouse culture, the lively flavors of Jinli Street, the monumental Leshan Giant Buddha, and the distinctive cuisine of Sichuan. We hope this journey has given you a deeper appreciation of the region's wildlife, history, and everyday culture.

We wish you a smooth onward journey and look forward to welcoming you back to Sichuan for another memorable adventure.
