The Trip That Made Me Fall in Love with Yunnan

I had always wanted to visit Yunnan, a place where nature, culture, and everyday life come together. So when my friends suggested spending our holiday there, I didn’t hesitate.

We were a small group, which made the trip even more fun. Everyone had a role. One friend was always looking for the best photo spot. Another was always thinking about food. And somehow, we laughed almost the entire way.

Lijiang was the first place that made me slow down. Compared with the busy cities we were used to, everything here felt calmer. Walking through Shuhe Ancient Town, we found small cafés, quiet streets, and little shops that we would have easily missed.

We didn’t really follow a strict plan. We just walked around, tried local snacks, and stopped whenever we saw something interesting. At one point, we joked that we should stay there for a month.

The biggest surprise was definitely Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. I had seen snowy mountains before, but being there felt completely different. The cable car kept going higher, and everyone became quieter as the views got better.

When we finally saw the snow-covered peaks above the clouds, nobody said much. We just stood there and took photos. Sometimes, a place is so beautiful that you don’t really know what to say.

We also watched “Impressions Lijiang”, which was unlike any performance I had seen before. The mountains themselves became part of the stage. It felt very connected to the place.

One thing I loved about Lijiang Ancient Town was that we had no pressure to rush. My friend, who normally plans every minute of a trip, eventually gave up and said, “Let’s just see where we end up.”

Honestly, that was the best decision.

We found random food stalls, bought things we didn’t need, and took way too many photos. Those small moments became some of my favorite memories.

Dali had a completely different feeling. It was slower and more relaxing. Cycling around Erhai Lake with the mountains in the background was one of the most peaceful experiences of the trip.

Of course, our “quick photo stop” never stayed quick. Five minutes always became twenty. But nobody really cared.

We also visited Baisha Ancient Town and learned more about Naxi culture. It was interesting to see how local traditions were still part of everyday life, not just something shown to tourists.

My favorite funny memory was joining a tie dye workshop in Xizhou Ancient Town. None of us were good at it. Our final designs looked nothing like the examples.

We laughed so much.

But honestly, that made it better. It became a memory that belonged only to us.

Looking back, what I loved most about Yunnan travel was not just the famous attractions. It was everything between them. Sharing food with friends, getting a little lost, sitting by the lake, and laughing about random things.

Yunnan gave me exactly what I was looking for: beautiful landscapes, traditional culture, and unforgettable moments with friends.

I left with hundreds of photos, a lot of funny stories, and the feeling that I will definitely come back someday.
